The Centre for Democracy, Research and Development, (CEDRED.) was established in Kenya in 1998 as an independent, not-for-profit, research training, advocacy and capacity building organisation by a consortium of scholars from Universities in East Africa. The purpose was to mobilise ideas, resources and support by stakeholders for democratic development and provide an independent space to reflect critically on the challenges posed to the democratisation and development processes in East Africa.
