amutabiProf. Maurice N. Amutabi – Chairperson

Prof. Maurice Amutabi is a Fulbright scholar and received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. He is an expert in governance, peace and development issues and has previously served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Students Affairs at Kisii University, Kenya and Director of Research and Postgraduate Training at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi. He is also the chairman of the African Interdisciplinary Studies Association (AISA) and Vice-president of Kenya Scholars and Studies Association (KESSA).

hamisiDr. Linnet Hamasi- Executive Director and Secretary to the Board

Dr. Linnet Hamasi received her PhD from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. She works as a lecturer at Kisii University, Kenya where she teaches courses in gender, development studies and peace and conflict studies. She has also worked in other universities in Kenya such as the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Nairobi. She is a winner of fellowship of University of Uppsala, Sweden. She is widely published and has attended many conferences. Dr. Hamasi also serves as the Executive Director and Treasurer of the Nairobi-based African Interdisciplinary Studies Association (AISA.)

She is a member of many professional organizations dealing with education. She is a career educator who has been deeply involved in the educational reforms in Kenya.

Dr. Jwan is the Director of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Studies (KICD), Nairobi, Kenya and worked for many years as Lecturer at Moi University. He has also previously worked as Director of Research at the National Commission on Integration and Cohesion, Kenya. He is widely published in the area of qualitative research.

Prof. Elinami V. Swai teaches at the Open University of Tanzania. She is the Director of SADC Centre of Excellence at OUT. She is former Fulbright Scholar and received her PhD from Penn State University, College Park, United States. Prof. Swai has previously taught at University of Toledo, Ohio and Central Washington University, Washington State, USA. Her book Beyond Women’s Empowerment in Africa (New York, PalgraveMacmillan, 2010) is leading book on gender discourses on Africa

Prof. Henrik Nordvall (Ph. D) is the Director of Mimer - The Swedish Network for Research on Popular Education at Linköping University. His doctoral thesis was about the organization of the global justice movement’s local Social Forums in Sweden. Current research projects include topics such as the educational background of the Swedish political elite; educational designs for critical pedagogy; and the global spread of the Scandinavian folk high school idea.

Dr. Fibian Lukalo is the Director of Research at the Kenya National Land Commission and has worked as lecturer at Moi University since the 1990s. She received her PhD from Cambridge University and is an expert in gender issues.

Prof. Mary Nyangweso-Wangila is the J. Woolard and Helen Peel distinguished professor in Religious Studies at East Carolina University (Greenville, North Carolina). She received the B. Ed (Education, Kiswahili and Religion) at Kenyatta University, Nairobi Kenya; the M. Phil (Religion) at Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya; the M. Th Theology at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia; and the M. Phil and PhD (Sociology of Religion) at Drew University.

Dr. Mumo Nzau teaches Political Science and International Relations at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi, Kenya. He is a former Fulbright scholar and widely published in democracy, human rights and security issues. He received his PhD from Buffallo, SUNY and is a leading consultant in security issues in Africa.

 Prof. Eunice Kamaara teaches at Moi University, Kenya. She has taught at Moi University for over twenty seven years. She is widely published in gender and religion issues. She received her PhD from Moi University, Kenya.

boganiProf. Bongani Bantwini, Board Member

Prof. Bongani Bantwini is Research Professor at North West University South Africa. He obtained a PhD in science education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the USA. Before rejoining the HSRC in June 2013 he was an assistant professor of science education at Kennesaw State University. He previously held a position in the Education and Skills Development programme at the HSRC.

Dr. Rose Badaza teaches at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mbale Campus. She is an expert on Development issues. Dr. Badaza has supervised many postgraduate students. She was the convenor of the First and Second UCU Mbale Campus International conferences.
